Weʼve raised £1,060 to turn a derelict pit site in to a heritage centre and a tourist attraction with artisan work shops.

    Stainforth, Doncaster, UK
Funded on Monday, 3rd June 2019

    Story

The Hatfield Main pit closed in 2015. A group of miners formed Hatfield Main Colliery Heritage Association and they managed to get the two headgears Grade II listed so they could not be knocked down. Most of the site has been knocked down but we have two winding houses and a powerhouse and a fan house.

Our aim would be to turn this site into a heritage centre and a country park consisting of a conference centre and sports hall with a museum and antiques centre with small workshops for artisans and crafting at a reasonable price.

We need to crowdfund to raise capital to do a project viability study.

We have now raised £747 and the last donation came from a young lady that as far as I know has no connection with mining what so ever. We are on holiday in Gt Yarmouth at her bungalows but she obviously has a great social conscious and wishes us every success. Thanks Lynette Langton it is much appreciated Keith Allsopp Chairman HMHT.

It would be brilliant for Hatfield Main to become a Heritage Centre for the British coal mining industry and the people that worked in it.
