    Story

We are Hayle Gig Club, based in the South West of Cornwall. A gig is a cornish boat and the sport of gig racing is growing rapidly throughout the country.

We currently have 1 plastic gig boat that is used to train all club members, ladies, men and juniors but we are need of another. Our current boat is old, heavy and limits us to only one training session at any one time.

We are looking to fund raise as much money as we can, to put alongside funding to purchase a new plastic gig. With the addition of another boat we are instantly able to double the amount of training sessions we can offer, which in turn means we can provide higher quality training for all members and ensure that new members get the training they deserve. This will also mean the club can grow.

As a club we are fundraising throughout the year by doing several events and all money is going towards the new boat fund.

First up a small number of members completed a 12 mile sponsored walk. Our club members, walked from Portreath to Devoran. Sweeping north to south the Cornish coastline route runs parallel to both the Portreath Tramroad and the Redruth and Chasewater line. With some fantastic support these guys raised a fantastic £480.

Now on to our second event. We are going to use our indoor rowing machines to row the same distance as the length of the Cornish coast, which is 230 miles. We will be set up outside Asda in Hayle, on Saturday 11th August, where you can come along and support us, as well as track our progress. We will also have one of our wooden boats "Arveth" on site for people to have a look around. We will be rowing from 10am until 4pm to cover 370,148 metres. It's going to be a tough challenge.

Can you help us reach our target? Can you support our members? Please hit the donate button on the right and give as much as you can afford. Every little helps and our club members appreciate your support.

    Thank you in advance
