Story
I am aiming to raise at least £5,000 by taking part in running challenges, starting with The Big Half Marathon on 6th September 2026.
Any money I raise will be donated to the charity called Tek Ura (At The Bridge) Charity no. 1218711 who support children and adults with dsabilties in Albania.
I have cerebral palsy and use an electric wheelchair because I cannot walk or push myself. For most of my life, running felt completely out of reach, something other people did, something I would never experience.
But in April this year, everything changed. I discovered that with a specialist assisted running chair, it was possible for friends to push me so I could take part in running events. I’ve now purchased my own running chair, and for the first time, I’m able to enjoy a sport that once felt impossible. My friends are helping me do something beyond my wildest dreams: to experience what it feels like to run.
As I take on this journey, I feel strongly that it shouldn’t just be about me. I want to raise awareness of what is possible when you have a disability and I want to use this opportunity to support people who are far less fortunate than I am.

Why I’m Raising Money for Tek Ura
I’ve chosen to support Tek Ura because their mission speaks directly to parts of my own life. Tek Ura works with people who are facing hardship, exclusion, and instability, people who are trying to rebuild their lives with very little around them. As a disabled person and a care leaver, I understand how it feels to grow up without the support systems many people rely on. I know what it means to fight for access, for independence, and for the chance to thrive.
Tek Ura stands beside individuals who are often overlooked. They provide practical support, dignity, and hope to people who are navigating challenges that most never see. Their work aligns with my belief that everyone deserves safety, opportunity, and someone in their corner.
My fundraising isn’t limited to one event. I’ll be taking on challenges such as the Big Half and future marathons as an assisted wheelchair person, but these are just part of a wider, ongoing commitment to raise awareness and funds for Tek Ura. I want to use every mile, every campaign, and every opportunity to highlight the resilience of people who are rebuilding their lives against the odds.
By donating, you’re helping Tek Ura reach people who need support the most, people whose stories echo parts of my own. Your contribution helps provide stability, community, and a pathway forward for individuals who deserve the chance to thrive.
Thank you for supporting this cause that means so much to me.
Best Wishes
Hazel
