In Loving Memory of Hazel Elles

In January 2025, we lost our dear friend and colleague Hazel in a tragic accident while she was out walking her beloved rescue dog, Bella.

Hazel had the biggest heart, especially when it came to animals. She was passionate about animal rescue and regularly supported local charities that gave vulnerable animals a second chance. Bella, her treasured rescue dog, was always by her side — a constant reminder of the difference rescue organisations make.

To honour Hazel’s memory and continue the support she gave so selflessly, we are raising funds for:

-Acres Way Trust (dogs, Essex)

-A New Beginning Cat Rescue (cats, Essex)

Our aim is to raise £2,000, which will be split equally between the charities on 12 January 2027.

Hazel's West Highland Way

In September 2026, a group of Hazel’s friends and colleagues will be taking on the West Highland Way in her memory.

This is no gentle stroll. The route stretches almost 100 miles (96 miles / 154 km) through the Scottish Highlands — from Milngavie to Fort William — and we will be completing it over six consecutive days.

We’ll be walking long distances every day, tackling steep climbs, rough terrain, uneven paths, and relentless descents. The Highlands in September are unpredictable, and we fully expect to face wind and rain (and plenty of it). Blisters, aching legs, soggy boots and tired bodies are all part of the challenge.

Of course, none of that compares to the loss of Hazel.

We’ll walk through the rain, up the hills and across the glens thinking of her — and of Bella — and of the causes she cared so much about. Every mile will be for Hazel and for the rescue animals whose lives can be changed through your support.

Alongside the walk, we’ll also be holding cake sales and other fundraising activities throughout the year to help us reach our goal.
