Story

We are raising this money to help tackle Northern Ireland’s youth mental health crisis — a crisis rooted not just in today’s challenges, but in the deep, unhealed trauma of the Troubles.

Around 500,000 people — roughly a third of the population — were directly affected by the violence, through bereavement, injury, or trauma.

Youth mental health in Northern Ireland is now in crisis. We have the highest rate of youth suicide in the UK, and mental health conditions are 25% more prevalent here than in other regions. Thousands of young people are referred to mental health services each year, yet many face long waiting times, or are turned away for not meeting clinical thresholds. Behind every statistic is a young person who may be struggling silently — often with nowhere to turn.

Headpeace is a developing initiative that offers young people aged 14–25 early support through mental health workshops, life skills training, suicide prevention, and practical self-care. We want to reach them before crisis point — before they fall through the cracks of overstretched services.

Decades of underinvestment, compounded by generational trauma, have left many communities without the support they desperately need. Northern Ireland still has the highest youth suicide rate in the UK — that’s not a statistic, it’s a wake-up call.

This funding will allow us to grow, partner with schools, communities, and professionals, and build a programme that is accessible, non-clinical, and designed to give young people the tools they need to navigate life.

Headpeace is a youth-driven mental health initiative designed for Northern Ireland’s unique social and cultural context — offering dynamic, music-led breathwork, mindfulness, and life skills training for young people aged 14–25.

Unlike traditional mindfulness or mental health programs, Headpeace blends evidence-based practices with energising, accessible experiences that fit the lifestyle and preferences of today’s youth. Our approach is rooted in the realities of post-conflict trauma, underfunded services, and the highest youth suicide rates in the UK.

We provide:

In-person workshops in schools, colleges, and youth spaces

Bespoke digital content — including breathwork, guided meditations, and practical self-care tools for anxiety, sleep, and stress

Suicide prevention education tailored to young people

Headpeace bridges the gap between clinical services and real-life, everyday support — giving young people the tools to manage their mental health long before crisis point, in ways that are engaging, socially relevant, and sustainable.

We’re not just teaching calm — we’re building a culture of resilience, clarity, and self-care for the next generation.

We want to change futures — and with your help, we can.

All donations and funding will directly support the growth and delivery of Headpeace — helping us to develop our technology, expand our programs, and build the capacity needed to reach more young people with effective mental health support.

Our goal is to make Headpeace services free at the point of delivery wherever possible, ensuring that support reaches those who need it most, when they need it most.

By supporting us, you’re helping to build a system of mental health support that is practical, engaging, and — most importantly — free to those who need it most, when they need it most.
