Story

My husband and soulmate, Jason, died unexpectedly in March. He was 44.

He leaves behind our beautiful son Charlie, who is only 10. It is with Charlie in the forefront of my mind that I am asking for your help.

Charlie has spent the majority of his time with his Dad because I work for the NHS and so they are “two peas in a pod”. Charlie shares the same personality traits as Jason; kindness, compassion, honesty, patience, loyalty and a great sense of humour. He also has the same cheeky grin! They share a love of nature and wildlife and Charlie has magical memories of rolling down grassy hills, building dens, skimming stones, rock pooling, star gazing and hunting for fossils with his Dad.

Even though he has lost so much Charlie continues to think of others. He asked if we could pass Jason’s 3D printer to someone who could print PPE for the NHS and so we did. The first batch of PPE was sent to us and we distributed this within the local community. Charlie has been raising money for charity in honour of his Dad by giving his books and toys away in exchange for a donation. He was thrilled to have collected £22.00 on the first day! Sadly, on the second day Charlie's Nerf gun collection was stolen and the honesty jar with donations in was taken too. I was heartbroken for him. He hasn’t been deterred though because of the immense kindness by the majority which helps to diminish the sadness caused by the minority. He continues to raise money by training to run 5k later this year and he has managed to persuade me to join him (I am definitely not a natural athlete but how could I say no!)

I am so proud of Charlie and I know Jason would feel the same. He has an inner strength that I struggle to find at times because the pain of losing Jason is so deep.

We recently moved house and Jason’s next project was to transform our back garden. With Charlie in mind he had planned a pond, worm farm, vegetable patch and of course a den. A couple of days after Jason died Charlie asked if we could still create the garden in memory of Jason and plant a tree and bench where he could sit and talk to his Dad and remember the happy times we had. I am not going to be able to fund or create the garden without Jason and so I am asking for donations in memory of Jason so I can create a healing garden space for Charlie.

Thank you to everyone who donates.

Liz
