I've raised £1850 to help us fund the restoration of the Cranshaw Chemists traditional awning and bring back a small part of Bingley's history and heritage

Whilst renovating the shop front at 103 Main Street in Bingley of what used to be Rainbow Wood furniture shop and Cranshaws Chemist before that, we discovered a wonderful traditional disappearing arm awning, which has been hidden behind the shop signs for the last 10 years.
Cranshaws was the second oldest business in Bingley and run for around 100 years. It was founded by Walter Cranshaw, sometime around 1921. When we asked local residents about Cranshaws, many wonderful, fond memories were triggered and brought back, from winning the Bingley Chamber of Trade Christmas Trophy with the best Christmas window display to potion and lotion bottles, whistle pops, barley sugars, Coltsfoot Rock and hair scrunchies, meeting old friends, many remembered a huge rocking horse in the shoe shop next door :)
The Cranshaws awning, which was installed in the 90's, has plenty more life left in it, however it does need restoring. We were quoted £1,850 plus VAT for this work. We didn't plan for this in our already stretched budget as we have a lovely and fairly new awning we can reuse, but the original one is so much more special!
We would love to bring this awning back to its former glory and carry on using it for many more years to come as it's such a wonderful part of Bingley's heritage!
Local residents encouraged us to set up this crowdfunding page to help us cover at least some of the cost, so here we are, asking you for help! Please donate as little or as much as you like. You can also help us by buying some fresh organic food in our shop, or ordering a delivery of a veg box from us on www.hedgehogorganics.co.uk - so we can then fund the restoration ourselves!
Thank you for your help in returning this beautiful part of history back to Bingley's Main Street.
