    Story

    JACOB WILLIAMS MEMORIAL FUND

Jacob’s fund was set up in June 2015 and has so far raised over £20000! This money will make a huge difference to babies, children and their families throughout South West Wales but we need to raise more! Jacob weighed just 1lb 9oz when he was born prematurely (14 weeks early) in Singleton Hospital on 1st November 2014. The care Jacob and his parents received was fantastic but the experience was like riding a rollercoaster. Good days and bad.. Ups and downs.. The staff were great but no room for parents to sit and talk, wait and just have ‘time out’ seemed incredible in a new neonatal intensive care unit… A wait in the corridor was necessary during staff handover and if Jacob, or another baby, was very ill or requiring attention – something which happened regularly. The ‘equipment’ was modern but the shortfall in chairs and incubator covers was noticeable, sometimes having to wait to hold Jacob as another mum was holding her child

After 10 weeks (and a short trip to Cardiff) Jacob was transferred to the Neonatal Care Unit in Glangwili Hopsital weighing 4lb 6oz

Again no ‘room’ for parents and no overnight facility... Cots very close together... Barely room for a chair. Mum and Dad travelling 30miles each day to spend as much time as possible with Jacob... Staff were lovely and did as much as they could but the rollercoaster continued with many ups & downs

Equipment & Toys needed to ensure babies and children receive the best possible care and development... Cilgerran Ward and Cardiff’s Paediatric Intensive Care unit were so dedicated to caring for their children. We aim to improve the care everyone receives whilst going through the most difficult and tempestuous journey anyone will ever face. With your help we can do it… Who knows who will need these facilities next?
