Friends of Lungthung have been working in partnership with Lungthung Village School since 1997, to increase the opportunities for children to complete their lower secondary education in the village. In 2012 Friends of Lungthung received a request from Lungthung School to help provide the funding to double the amount of teachers at the school, in order to teach more effectively up to class eight. If a school can demonstrate that these classes are sustainable, then the government will take over the funding of the additional teachers after five years. Successful study up to grade eight enables pupils to have the option of moving on to a technical school and obtaining a "Technical School leaving Certificate" . In April 2013, Lungthung school doubled the amount of teachers at the school, from three to six teachers, with the funding being jointly provided by the Lungthung Village Committee, Friends of Lungthung, and parents. Friends of Lungthung are currently committed to continue this funding until April 2019. This will enable the school to continue to teach effectively up to class 8, and to be in a position to provide the evidence needed to access government funding for this to continue in the future.
