Helen has always been known as a strong single mother who has overcome many obstacles and battles in her life. She has always held her head high when faced with struggles and has endeavoured to be the best she can in her career and in her life . Following a successful career as an International headhunter, in 2006 she made the brave decision to change her path and become an iyengar yoga teacher, teaching in London and overseas.

Now a grandmother of two Helen has been dealt her hardest challenge yet and sadly it has taken its toll. In November 2020 after a year of illnesses Helen was diagnosed with Splenic Marginal Zone Lymphoma (an incurable cancer) in both her spleen and bone marrow with a rare side effect of angioedema.

This was a huge shock for everyone given what a healthy lifestyle she has always led. Unfortunately the diagnosis was in the height of the pandemic meaning Helen would have to undergo chemotherapy and immunotherapy while shielding. Because of this Helen has been unable to work and this has impacted her ability to earn enough money to cover her living costs.

Gruelling Chemotherapy

After 4 gruelling rounds the chemo had taken its toll and she could no longer function. The doctors made the decision to stop treatment, do a scan and see where she was at. Amazingly she was in a partial remission (the spleen was in remission) sadly the bone marrow part is still there. She now has to have 2 years of immunotherapy (Rituximab) to delay it coming back more aggressively.

We do not know how long it will take to come back!! With this rare blood cancer and the pandemic she remains in a highly risky situation to continue her work in person. Therefore she needs your help to continue to survive and find alternative therapy to help her fight this awful disease.

Helen is changing her life again

Helen is also looking to once again change her life and study Nutrition as a way of helping other cancer patients who badly need guidance {as did she).

To do this she is looking to raise money to study and retrain so that she can combine her yoga teaching with nutritional advice specifically for the cancer community.

Please help Helen during these 2 years of treatment and beyond, so she does not need to worry about less or no income. Let’s help Helen change her life again, retrain so that she can use her knowledge and training to help other cancer patients during their very difficult times.

The money raised will be used to:

Undergo alternative natural therapy alongside her hospital cancer therapy

Train to become a nutritionist

This guarantees Helen will give back to cancer patients through her Iyengar Yoga Teaching and Nutrition. A very powerful support during dreadful times for cancer patients.
