Story
During the conflict in the Falklands in 1982, a number of service men fell victim to the Argentinian campaign. The “59” Independent Commando Squadron Royal Engineers were part of the task force sent to aid in the successful recapture of the Falkland Islands from Argentinian invaders. During the campaign, 5 of these brave men were lost from the “59” unit. After the war, a memorial wood was planted; a tree for every fallen person. Now “59” veterans of the conflict want to honour their fallen colleagues by returning to the place where it all happened, to place a memorial plaque and bench in the woods as a mark of respect for their sacrifice.
