    Story

On 12th May I will be attempting to run further than I have ever run before- 100 miles in one go along the Pembrokeshire coastal path. It will take me all day Saturday, all Saturday night and into Sunday afternoon- only 5 miles short of 4 marathons in a row, on the hilly, rocky coastal path! I'm a bit afraid, but I have been training like a fiend so should be ready. I only ask for sponsorship for things that really push me- this definitely will....I am running to raise money for community development work I support in Uganda.

In 2017 we established Fruits of Faith, a UK based charity supporting community development work in Uganda. We were inspired to do so by “Fruits of Faith Uganda”, a registered Community Development Group in Masaka which was established to enable a poor rural community to become self sufficient.

The above picture shows the wonderful women's cooperative which started their own fundraising through the sale of their crafts. They used this money to rent some land and planted 15,000 pineapples to income generate. The women have recently learnt how to make soap to sell at local markets. All of these initiatives were funded by their families and community.

There are some projects which were just too expensive to be within reach for this community. My family joined with the Lawrence family (who were already supporting this community) and fundraised to build a new church to be used as a place of worship and as a community hub. Most recently we have made a grant to install a water tank.

The longer term plan is to buy some land to grow more cash crops to invest in the further development of this rural community. The local community set their own plans and timescales, we just partner with them when projects would be out of reach otherwise.

It is easy to get overwhelmed with the need in developing countries. I have decided to do something rather just talking. I have made a personal commitment to this community- I hope you can support them and me as I raise funds through (hopefully!) running 100 miles along the Pembrokeshire coastal path!
