First of all thank you so much to everyone who has donated - £84k is a tremendous amount that since setting up the page we felt would be very difficult to achieve. But the generosity felt over the last few weeks has been amazing, and both families can't thank you all enough. Without your support the outcome could have been very different, it doesn't bare to think! So once again we are so appreciative with all donations no matter how big or small - every penny has counted towards Alex & Joella's continued recovery.
For those who aren't aware, our good friends Alex & Joella were involved in a road accident out in Bali and are both in a critical condition. Since raising initial funds to get them both operated on we are now desperately needing support to help them continue their recovery and get them back to the UK. In Bali, for any surgeries and care to be carried out they require upfront funding - so every penny donated is going straight towards the front line to help provide critical care that they both urgently need.
Alex is unfortunately heading into his 3rd week in ICU still heavily sedated due to the pain however there have been a couple of milestones which has provided really positive news for the family. Both CT Scans have come back clear on any head injuries, and since reducing the level of sedation he has been able to communicate intermittently with the family which has been a great relief. Joella has also been able to visit Alex where the reunion was very emotional to say the least - there love has really shown through and was the first time Alex had opened his eyes since the accident happened. They are now willing each other on to get better and help get past this awful ordeal they have both experienced. Alex even managed to stomach a yoghurt for the first time the other day - his first bit of proper food in nearly 3 weeks!
Joella's reaction to her operation has been fantastic and has also achieved a great milestone of being able to walk for the first time the other day since the accident happened. This is an amazing achievement considering only last week she had her operation to fix her double fractured vertebrae. Similar to Alex though, her road to recovery is still going to take plenty of time - however with the dedication she has shown post operation to get herself back on her feet things are looking a lot brighter for Joella now. In the meantime she remains hugely worried about Alex and is giving all her love and support to him, even though she is still in plenty of pain herself.
Moving forward we still really need to push to achieve over the £100k as this amount will be hugely important to aide their recovery. With initial operations now done - the mission is to get them back to the UK. Especially for Alex so he can complete his remaining operations needed to his Jaw and temporal bones which are still causing a tremendous amount of pain. The family are working tirelessly to make this happen but as you can imagine - the logistics and cost to get Alex back is putting a real strain on things. So we really need a massive push with donations and support to get them over the line.
Once again, thank you so much for everyone's donations - both families are so overwhelmed and appreciative of all the support. Let's continue our support to help bring them both home. x
