Story
Since October 2024, our lives have changed in ways we never could have imagined. What began as a simple illness quickly became something far more serious. Within weeks, mobility started to deteriorate. Walking became difficult, then impossible without support, and before long, reliance on a wheelchair became necessary just to get around.
We went from appointment to appointment, seeing countless doctors and trying different treatments, desperately searching for answers — but none came. In June, things took a frightening turn. A medical emergency led to a hospital visit filled with panic and uncertainty. After extensive testing, we were told it hadn’t been a stroke — yet we were still left without any explanation.
Just one week later, there was another alarming incident that resulted in another ambulance call and more fear. This time there was no admission to the hospital but advice to return if things worsened. On 23rd June, the situation escalated further when hospitalization became necessary due to complete loss of mobility and limb function.
Watching someone you love lose their independence so suddenly is heartbreaking beyond words. In November 2025, intensive rehabilitation began at a specialized unit where strength had to be rebuilt from scratch with the hope of returning to work one day. Each day is a fight for even the smallest movement.
After months of uncertainty, we finally received a diagnosis: sensory ganglionopathy — an extremely rare neurological condition that has turned our world upside down. Due to this illness, coordination and proprioception have been severely affected. Basic daily tasks have become incredibly challenging.
Our home is no longer suitable for her needs; adaptations are urgently required for safety and accessibility upon her return. The playroom has been transformed into a makeshift bedroom due to mobility issues with stairs. There is no shower downstairs; even simple routines are exhausting and distressing.
What we desperately need is to create a safe space — a downstairs bedroom and wet room where she can shower safely and regain some dignity and independence. This isn’t just about building work; it’s about giving comfort back to her life and restoring normality for our children.
While she remains in hospital, financial strain has increased significantly as benefits are not available during this time of recovery. The sudden loss of income alongside the uncertainty of recovery has placed enormous pressure on our family during this already heartbreaking period.
We are raising funds to help bridge this gap: £10,000 GBP is needed urgently to support financially while unable to work and ensure home adaptations can be made quickly so she can return safely and comfortably.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.
