My name is Martyn I am a dog walker/Trainer at Ozzy’s Dog Walking/Training Services. I love all animals and have a strong passion for dogs. But does this mean that another species of animal is worth less? Of course it doesn’t therefore I have teamed up with Capable Canines and a new Animal shelter called Paws for A While. This shelter wants to help all animals small and large but they can`t do this without our help!

I`m sure you will all agree with me when I say if I could build a big shelter in the garden to help all the animals in the world we would, but this unfortunately isn’t possible for most of us. So, we can do our part in helping shelters like this and sleep soundly at night knowing that a dog, cat even a pig will have a safe and warm place to sleep with a meal and water the things that our own pets would take for granted.

I am asking people to sponsor me as I attempt to do a bicycle ride from Skegness back to the shelter this will be 130 miles and completed on the same day. This will be solo and un-assisted with only my faithful companion Ozzy the Shih Tzu for company he will be spurring me on from the bicycle trailer and enjoying the views. The total weight of the trailer and dog among essential supplies water, puncture repair etc etc will be 20-25kg of extra weight. Capable Canines will be holding an open day at their training grounds where they’ll be fun to be had by the whole family this will include Dog Shows, stalls and refreshments.

The costs of running an Animal shelter are so expensive and these people tend to be volunteers giving up their own time and money to help the animals below are some of the expenses before even building the shelter is added on.

• Feeding and cleaning the animals

• All veterinary costs and treatments

• Maintenance of animal accommodation and the Animal Centre

• Light, heating, water and telephone costs

• Administration

• Fundraising

These costs can be in excess of £1000 per day!!!!

To combat this the shelter will also run alongside it a safe boarding kennels and cattery to help fund the shelter but they still need help. So please open your heart to this shelter and help me help them. Do you really need to have that take-away on the Friday night or the 4 pack of beer? Why not give an animal a safe place to sleep and eat?
