Harry's story

---------------

On Wednesday 3rd December, whilst playing for Liverpool University in Sheffield, Harry suffered a fracture to C5 in a tackle.

The following day he had emergency surgery to replace the front of C5 with a cage. He had a second surgery on Monday to do the same to the back.

At this stage, he has full feeling all over his body. Movement is more challenging whilst the swelling post surgery reduces, however it is progressing day by day now that the neck joint is stable.

The road to recovery from an injury like this is a long one, but prognosis is good & the spinal injury consultants are optimistic he will walk out of hospital at the end of rehab.

Harry will transfer to the spinal rehab unit here in Sheffield & is set to remain here for 2-3 months at the moment.

----------------

This JustGiving page has been set up to support Harry Bartlett, who suffered a serious injury while playing rugby. This has been a very difficult and challenging time for Harry and his family.

All donations made through this page will go directly towards supporting Harry and his family, helping to ease the financial and practical pressures they are facing while Harry focuses on his recovery.

Any contribution, no matter how small, would be hugely appreciated, and please feel free to share the page to help spread the word.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.

Update February 26

It’s now been just over 2 months since Harry’s accident & we wanted to thank you all for your support. We have been completely overwhelmed by people’s generosity & kindness.

Immediately after the accident, we really didn’t know what the future was going to look like for Harry. There are still a lot of uncertainties (expected with an incomplete spinal injury) but things have moved on.

Following two surgeries & a serious chest infection, Harry left intensive care at the start of January & transferred to the Princess Royal Spinal Unit here in Sheffield. He’s due to be here until the end of May.

Physio & OT have been going really well. Harry can now stand unsupported & is moving in & out of his wheelchair mostly by himself. This is huge progress within such a short amount of time.

He has incredible strength & determination to work hard & do everything that’s asked of him (which is a lot!).

Thank you for your support. It has meant so much to Harry & all of us.

Helen, Iain, Harry, Archie & Eddie Bartlett.
