Story
Francis has Cerebral Palsy and a twisted spine, dislocated hip plus many other needs, he is at risk from injury when being transferred from his wheelchair and as such spends the majority of his day in specialised seating, he cannot support himself and as such requires 24/7 care.
Francis likes being outside in the garden where he can listen to all the noises of nature and other children and experience the outside as much as he can, we often pick flowers for him to smell so he can have some experience of being outside in the same way as other children do. The garden where Francis is going to live is 1m higher than the back door level and has no facilities he can access, as a family we are hoping to have the garden made suitable for Francis by a specialist company who make gardens for Disabled children so that Francis can enjoy the pleasures of being outside the same as we do. We estimate the cost the garden adaptations to easily exceed £30,000
Francis has many different therapies that help him through his day, hydro therapy is really good for him and he really enjoys it, intact this has probably been one of the first things that has generated an independent response to stimulation where he moved his arm away from the water coming out of a watering can, he did this twice in two different sessions two weeks apart, he has now started to respond to more stimulation and really enjoys being in the water, unfortunately although the hospital is only 4 miles away, the hydrotherapy sessions are only six 30 minutes sessions spread over six weeks and then a gap of several months (so far three months and still no news on the next sessions), the support that Francis needs for these sessions means that for every thirty minute session he is out of the house for over three hours, when you add parking and getting changed, we are hopefully going to get a 16ft swim spa with a flat bottom for us to be able to
