Story

I recently visited Omadal Island in Malaysia, where I met the Bajau Laut community - a group of stateless sea nomads with no official settlement and no access to the basic services most of us take for granted.

Because they lack citizenship in any country, they have no official documents, which means they can’t attend school, access healthcare, or get legal work.

During my time there, I met the incredible people behind ISKUL, an NGO trying to change that. They provide education and support to Bajau Laut children, but they have no regular funding and will run out of money without donations.

Right now, their boat is broken, and without it, they’re having to charter boats just to transport food, supplies, transport rubbish collected during community clean ups or reach the mainland in medical emergencies. It’s expensive and unsustainable. If we can help them buy their own boat, they’ll save a huge amount of money, and their limited funding will stretch much further.

I’m launching this fundraiser to raise (hopefully) at least £6,000 to help ISKUL buy a new boat and continue their vital work. Every donation, big or small, will make a real difference.

I will publicly post and show the donations and transfers to ISKUL receiving those funds. I will also go back to Omadal and film an update in the future. Unfortunately as they are based in Malaysia I cannot attach the actual charity to this fundraiser but if you want to learn more about the charity.
