Story

On the 17th June 2018 Luke, an Army Veteran was found in a suicidal state by his wife Amanda.

Luke Joined the Army in 1999 with the Green Howards which went on to become the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. He was in the Infantry for 12 years and in that time did tours of duty in Northern Ireland and 3 tours of Afghanistan, during which time he was part of some of the worst battles of the war.

He left the Army in 2010 but the signs of PTSD had already started. He tried to put his Army life behind him and started his new life on "civvy Street".

He went on to marry his childhood sweetheart and have 2 young children together.

Unfortunately on Fathers day ( 17th June) it all came to a head, his demons won and he had a complete breakdown with terrifying flashbacks, In his head he was back in Afghanistan with the most horrific things happening. He did not recognise his wife, or remember their children, where he was or even how old he was.

He is currently in hospital, an hours drive away from home, receiving treatment. He has flashbacks of Afghanistan daily and cannot step outside the hospital as in his eyes, there are threats everywhere.

With medication he can now remember his family and friends, but as yet, is not well enough to see his children as we want to wait until he is more stable.

He has been diagnosed with PTSD ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and depression. It is not known how long he will be in hospital for, as the doctors have said there isn't going to be a quick fix, he has a long road ahead of him.

His main priority in life was to provide for his family, the last few years working as Self Employed Fisherman. At this difficult time with him in hospital, with no money coming in, worries about finances are yet another burden for him, when he needs to just be concentrating on his recovery. We are raising money for Lukes wife and children to help with the costs of day to day living, fuel costs, bills and food etc.

Luke fought for his country, but now he needs your help.

If anyone could help this family out by donating while Luke recovers it would be greatly appreciated. Any money that has been donated but not used by the time Luke returns to full time work, will be donated to some of the charities that helped him during his recovery.

If anyone reading needs help, there is now a Military Mental Health Helpline 0800 323 4444 open 24/7 to help any Military struggling with mental health.
