Story
Hurricane Irma hit the glabal headlines as a devastating Atlantic Hurricane. Of the many areas affected is the home of my brother, Rich, and his partner, Cat, the British Virgin Islands (BVI). But behind emotive news articles and pictures shared, and re-emergent pleas to recognise the causes of, and prepare for the effects of, these events, there's an immediate need to get peoples' lives back on a solid grounding. They have sheltered, feared for their lives, found their home a shell, and their livelihoods gone. They have been committed to and adoring of their community in the BVI. We have had limited contact presently and they are in the hearts of many who love them but are sadly half a world away and cannot, but are desperate to, help. Their immediate priority is to find their way to safety and access basic provisions, for themselves and the rest of the community they are sheltering and helping to look after, as relief efforts attempted by sea cannot access most areas due to the destruction. They are missed, loved, and desperate for any help to get them safe, secure, and able to try and put together the pieces of their lives and the lives of those in their community. The video is shot by Cat herself and shows you where they are and the state it, and they, are in.

7 years agoRich and Cat, and all of their families, want to extend huge thanks to everybody who shared, showed interest, and gave their generous donations. You've all helped so much when they were in dire need. After a number of weeks of surviving the hurricane and the utter devastation its aftermath had brought to their lives and their community, they have now (after some time) been able to get to safety and can start to recover and move on. All of your generosity helped them considerably to survive and move to safety, and is overwhelmingly appreciated!

7 years agoTo everybody who has shared and donated, I offer my most sincere and heartfelt thanks. Some overwhelming fundraising has taken place and it is testament to the strength of the community that surrounds these people that such generosity has been shown. I know my brother and Cat, and any of the people it will help, are so grateful for the support shown. We wanted to show anybody else who opens their hearts that their donations are still most welcome, and so have amended the target to reflect the tremendous generosity already shown.
