🌱 Help Sam Grow – Support His Journey Into Gardening 🌱
On the 5th of October, I’m taking on the challenge of the Chester Marathon — my fourth official marathon — and I’m doing it with a very special goal in mind.
I’m fundraising for my son Sam, a determined young man with a deep passion for gardening and a dream of building a meaningful career in it.
As many of you know, Sam (who changed his own name by choice from Fynn) was diagnosed with Autism when he was 7 years old. After a turbulent school life, Sam found his path through horticulture at Hadlow College, where he truly flourished. He discovered his love for gardening machinery and man tools, and it became clear this was his niche.
We’ve now been offered a wonderful opportunity through Thin Raft, a Kent-based Community Interest Company (www.thinraft.co.uk) which has pledged to support Sam with the training, mentorship, and guidance he needs to take the next steps in his career. This support will help him build his skills, confidence, and self-worth, with the ultimate goal of securing full-time employment in a field he’s passionate about.
This opportunity is truly life-changing — but we need a bit of help to make it happen.
We’re raising funds to cover:
Specialist gardening tools and equipment
Travel costs to and from the training sessions
Ongoing mentorship and skills workshops
Supportive learning materials and workwear
Just like running a marathon, this journey is all about taking one step at a time — and every donation, no matter the size, helps get Sam closer to his goal

Just to add that without kind, driven and determined people like David who is the main man behind thin raft, young adults like Sam would just be lost in our society, these are wasted individuals who have so much more to offer our community and themselves as human beings.
