    Story

THE TOUN has been a dedicated team member working for the Consular Section in the British Embassy, Phnom Penh, for nearly 9 years, helping thousands of British nationals in trouble during this time. She now needs our help.

The (pronounced as "Thai") is a loving wife and mother of two young boys age 3 and 6. She is our colleague and friend. In May 2017 she took seriously ill and was rushed to hospital. After days of tests the doctors advised her that she had cancer of the colon. The cancer is at Stage 4. The outlook is not positive. The news came as a huge and sudden blow to The, her family and her friends.

To raise enough money to pay for the emergency operation in Thailand, the flights to Bangkok and hotel bills every two weeks for her extensive and expensive chemotherapy, The has so far had to sell her family’s home, her car and many of her belongings. On her third chemo session she received more bad news, that another tumour has appeared and that she will need further surgery after completing the current chemo course. The has now been transferred to a more specialised hospital in Ubon, Thailand (near the Laos border), as there are no hospitals here in Cambodia equipped to treat her condition. She now faces months of separation from her two young children, husband and the rest of the family who are her vital support to stay strong to fight on. The’s healthcare insurance covers treatment up to a maximum of $20,000. The treatment she has received has already exceeded this. The final costs projected to be over £100,000.

We (her colleagues) would like to show our support and help raise the much needed money for her treatment. So, we have set up this Just Giving page for anyone who would like to donate towards her treatment costs. No donation is too small!

We would like to thank you for your interest.

To all dear donors, Thank you all for your kind heart and generosity. Very sadly The Toun passed away last Saturday (30th Dec 2017), two days before NY 2018. She left behind her family and her two young boys who haven't yet comprehend that their mother will not be returning. Our last meeting she couldn't thank enough the many who gave so much. She passed away in her sleep. May she now rests in peace. Thank you again to you all and I truly wish good health above everything for all of you and those you love for 2018 and many more years to come.

A recent (22/10/17) picture of The with her boys taken a day before going back to Ubon to start her chemo. She's 42kg in weight and unable to eat anything.

Thanks so much for all your donations and well wishes! The would like me to let you all know that she is so deeply touched by your kindness and generosity. The had the second operation, awaiting for biopsy result. After a long time away from home she's back for a short time to see her children who missed her very much. She had to sell a few more items (motorbike etc.) before returning to Ubon in a few days for more chemo. Please keep on sharing the page, maybe there'll be one very touched millionaire out there that could help? I live in hope!

I work at the British Embassy Cambodia as a consular officer. We're a very small team of 4, now one is very sick. My colleague is the most caring, selfless person helping thousands of British people. It's a thankless job, at times dealing with abusive people but she gave her all!
