Hi there, this is Gayathri Thangavelu from Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK. I have joined hands with an army of little and big warriors to fundraise for emergency COVID-19 relief efforts in the Indian city of Erode. The money will go to a trusted NGO (Erodu Siragugal ) who will use it to organise 100 oxygen beds at IRTT Perundurai Medical College Hospital.

India is currently fighting a challenging second wave of Covid-19. While the country successfully flattened the curve in the first wave, the machinery is struggling to cope with the scale of impact this time. Hospitals are full in most cities, as are crematoriums in many places sadly. Varying stages of lockdown are now being announced by local governments, but it will be a few weeks before things settle down. Speak to any Indian you know - and the odds are that they have lost someone they personally know recently or at least know someone who has. It’s real.

This is a fundraiser to support an NGO called “Erodu Siragugal” in the city of Erode. They have secured a site in IRTT Medical College Hospital and have started building a 100-bed Covid-19 treatment block and other requirements like and O2Concentrators. However, funds are scarce and they would greatly appreciate our support.

The projected cost for the initiative is around £40,000. We are in the process of fine-tuning the design/materials to make it more efficient - possibly down to £35,000. The gravity of the situation means time is of the essence - every hour makes a difference.
