In 2016 my auntie, Aurelia, has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. This was a big shock for our family as she was living a healthy lifestyle. She was the one who was always giving us health tips! As you probably can imagine, the situation has made us all feel very sad. Because of cancer I have already lost my grandad in 2004 and In 2015, I lost my grandma, which I found very difficult to deal with.
The battle is a struggle. The treatments so far have been unsuccessful but she keeps fighting. She has been travelling around the country to get to different doctors with hope they'll help. They give us a spark of hope and start a new treatment, but like the previous ones it just isn't working. They told us 'there's nothing left'. Hearing this breaks all of our hearts. It very frustrating that there is so little we can do.
We have been told that there is a medication called Avastin. However, this is not funded by the NHS. The cost for the treatment for the year is £12 000. Money that Aurelia or our family has not got. Although, we are all putting money together to help her, we need other people to help us.
She is a loving mother and recently she became a grandmother to a gorgeous little girl. I know how much she would love to watch her grow, see her first steps and hear her say her first word. Her children, my cousins have already had a difficult live. In 2008, their dad has been hit by a car on a pedestrian crossing and sadly passed away. Klaudia was 17 and Oskar was 10. It was difficult for them to live without a dad. Now, life has thrown this at us all. Klaudia is 26 this year and Oskar is 19. She's the only person they have left.
