Story
Today I was on a busy train when two men got on and targeted a young lad who was sat on his own....they put him in a headlock and started to punch him in the face and throw him across the aisle and continue to beat him and hold him down. I was sat behind them with my two very small children and the whole thing happened in front of us. Out of sheer panic got up and moved my pram away and started asking the other passengers to call 999 as a boy was being attacked. I hope out of fear everyone ignored me and put their heads down. The young lad called out "help me please someone!". With two small children with me I felt utterly helpless and I am ashamed to say I put mine and their safety first and didn't step in. At the next stop the two guys casually stared at me and walked off the train with the boy's wallet and phone as if nothing had happened. Nobody challenged them, followed them or came to see if the young boy was ok. I went over to him and asked him if he was ok - he was clearly shaken and upset and he asked me "why didn't anyone do anything - there were so many of you and nobody did anything". I felt utterly helpless and apologised. At the next stop I suggested he got off with me and we call the police and I would drive him home. While we were waiting he was very quiet but I managed to find out his name and address and that he is 16 years old and in college. He had saved for a year to buy his iPhone 6 and had had it less than a week. The police arrived and took over and he went with them to see if they could spot the guys - sadly I doubt they will ever be caught. I know that there are worst disasters happening all around the world but i felt so bad for this poor boy and so ashamed that we all stood by and let those horrid men hurt and rob him. I would love to be able to raise the £150 he spent on his phone so he can at least replace it.
