    Story

**Versione Italiana in basso - Italian translation at the bottom**

Peter was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) type 1, a degenerative, muscle wasting illness when he was a month old. The outlook was very bleak and we were told that without medicine, Peter’s life expectancy would be less than 2 years.

Luckily we have been able to start Peter on a treatment that has yielded some results; Peter now has some movement in his arms and legs. But it is not enough. He is still unable to sit up and has limited control of his head. His chest muscles are extremely weak and his lungs so small that he struggles to breathe properly and relies on a ventilator to help him breathe at night. Worst of all, his life expectancy is still too short, at best we can look forward to a few more birthdays.

But there is light at the end of the tunnel. A new drug called ZOLGENSMA®️ which has been approved in Germany has had extraordinary results with children suffering from SMA type 1, with most of them able to regain mobility including head control and some even taking their first steps. Most importantly, the therapy has dramatically increased their life expectancy.

The catch - ZOLGENSMA®️ is extremely expensive and currently costs around £1.78 million but is not currently available in the UK on the NHS or privately. It is available in other countries like Germany and therefore our only hope is to raise the funds in time for Peter to receive this treatment. We are pleading with you for any help you can give in achieving our goal.

Peter is a wonderful little boy who has charmed his many friends, nurses and doctors throughout this difficult journey. Despite having to suffer daily interventions and painful routines as well as having to be fed through a tube in his nose, he has always done so with a smile on his little face, showing us how to face hardship with cheer and brightening our lives. We want to give him more, a real chance at life.

The money we raise will go directly towards Peter’s gene therapy treatment. We are working against the clock to get the necessary funds as this treatment is only open to baby’s weighing under 21kgs, we therefore have a few months to raise these funds for Peter.

Thank you for standing with us, for the love and support and any donations in supporting Peter. We are eternally grateful to you.

Ti saremo eternamente grati.
