St John,USVI
Why I am swimming 2.5km...
In April 2017 I went to St John (an island which is part of the US Virgin Islands; in the Caribbean) on a family snorkelling holiday. My grandparents have been going there every year for 18 years and have wanted to take me and my sister there ever since we were born. It was the most amazing experience and my favourite holiday I’ve ever been on! We got to meet locals, snorkel among the gorgeous coral reefs and tropical fish and just generally have an amazing time. Unfortunately, St John was badly hit by Hurricane Irma only 5 months after we were there. They lost most homes and buildings and are still trying to put in running water and electricity across the island now!
Because of this awful damage that has happened to this beautiful island I have decided to help…
I’m doing a sponsored swim of 100 lengths in a 25m pool on Saturday 27th January.
The money raised will go to help these two superb causes and will be hand delivered by my grandparents when they visit in February:
St John Animal Care Centre: when the island was mostly evacuated pets had to be left behind and some just got lost, this charity help owners to be reunited with there lost pets.
St John Rescue: This charity is practically self-explanatory but it has been running for a long time and has helped many people through tough times.
