Story

Maria is only 5 years old. Few weeks ago she had a big headache and tummy ache so her parent took her to the doctor. The doctor diagnosed grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) brain cancer! She is only 5 and her only chance to survive is immediate treatment in Mexico, which costs £200 K. EVERY DAY COUNTS.

We are doing our best to support Maria and her parents in this difficult and exhausting fight. Feel free to say hi to Maria on her FaceBook Page, and check out her Polish Fundraising Page, Let's help this little angel get back on her feet!

Maria’s Story:

From Maria: "My name is Maria Mitula. I am 5 years old. Few weeks ago, I started having big headaches and tummy aches. I went with my mummy to the doctor and he told me I need to go to the hospital to get some important tests done. After speaking to the lady doctor at the hospital she told me to lie down on a special bed so she can have a better look at me. The adults call that bed tomography (TK) but for me it was like bed from space. Mummy and daddy said they will be in the next room and they will be looking at me through the window so I can lie down without moving for a while. It is not so easy when you are 5 years old and you don’t know what will happen. Maybe it will actually take me to space?! I started hearing a voice speaking to me but there was no one else in the room. Maybe it was a magical bed after all. I was lying there and I was doing my best not to move. It all took about 5 minutes.

After this examination Mummy and Daddy came to me. They were smiling but I could feel they were very sad. Like my daddy is saying sometimes ‘sometimes we are crying inside without the tears on the outside’. I think this is how he was feeling. I didn’t know that the lady doctor said to mum and dad that I have a tumour. A brain tumour.

It was beautiful sunny day – 9th of July 2018. After few days just behind my ear I started having weird mark – magical – as I don’t know where it came from after the surgery I had to have…. "

Few words from the parents:

When fighting for life – we are fighting for time, for every moment, every smile and dreams. So in a years time, or two, three four, five… she is still with us.

We will be with her always!!

We believe that although our little girl was diagnosed with grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) brain cancer, we will still be together.

Details:

The chemotherapy that Maria is currently receiving doesn’t work. Her body is immune to the type of cancer she was diagnosed with. What is working for some, unfortunately is not successful for our beautiful Maria. Maria’s parents keep fighting and looking for alternative treatment, even if it means taking Maria to a different country. At this moment, the Oncology Clinic in Mexico (Montenerrey) ‘Instituto de Oncologia Intervencionista’ which specializes in the treatment of this type of tumour – qualified Maria for treatment and series of tests that might help. We want to send Maria and her parents to this Clinic AS SOON AS POSSIBLE for a procedure which will allow to administer a medication directly to the tumour – which no other clinics specialize in doing.

Injecting the medication directly into the tumour means – attacking the enemy directly, without infecting the rest of Maria’s body which happens during the standard chemotherapy.

At the same time Maria would receive a supplement therapy to strengthen the influence of the medication.

The treatments won’t end at one visit in Mexico. It is a cyclic regular process which needs to be repeated every 4-5 weeks for the treatment to give the desired effect.

Maria’s parents got in touch with other families who used that treatment to get first hand information and advice on the matter! Already after the first injection – the growth/expansion of the tumour stops (!) which already gives a lot of hope, and after 3 injections the tumour starts getting smaller and smaller.

Kind Thanks:

To friends, family and everyone who is supporting our little Maria in her sad and exhausting fight: Please help us fight for her beautiful smile, so she can keep running many more mini marathons with her dad, which she loves so much! So she can laugh for many more long years with her Mum, and so we can all be graced with her presence as long as we can!!
