Story

This is Antony or ‘Garvey’ as most people know him he is a proud and hard working man, husband and father. He would do anything for anyone. He worked hard all his life and loved his job as a plasterer he loved the banter on site too. He has two small beautiful children a boy and a girl, and they are his world.

Christmas 2016 Garvey noticed weakness in his grip in his left hand, he thought work related stuff and continued working but the weakness began to get more severe. So he went to the doctor, and then the hospital for tests. In June 2017 he was diagnosed with Motor Neuron disease (MND). Its a nerve disease that deteriorates to a point were you have no more control over your limbs, your body or even your speech, but your mind still operates as normal. MND has no cause or cure it strips everything from a person, their ability to walk, talk. hug their children. Eat and eventually breath while inside they are the same person wanting to do all those things.

One of Garv biggest fears is that the kids wont recognize him as their dad anymore although we can do little about his condition, during this life changing process we discovered ‘Voice Banking’ Voice banking is a process that would allow Garv to record a set list of phrases with his own voice, ‘ I love you’ ‘Hey behave yourself’ while he still have the ability to do so. This recording is then converted to create a personal synthetic voice, and would go through a high-tech AAC systems .

So when Garv is no longer able to use his own voice, he can use the Voice bank to communicate.

We and our family and friends have already been trying to raise funds, but we need to raise £2000 for the Voice Banking’ system, if you can help in anyway, however big or small will be so appreciated or share the page and let others know we would appreciate it so much.
