Story

Hi,

We are Helping Hands for Nepal - a non-profit group created to help young students in Nepal improve their health and education. Nepal's children have many barriers to education. We are raising awareness to help the local people build and equip new schools and improve the environment of their current schools with technology and better equipment.

Helping Hands for Nepal was created by Maxine, who spent time in Nepal in 2015 helping a local company, Real Himalaya, to rebuild a school in the Himalayas which had been destroyed by the earthquake. Through the profits of AmaDablam Cashmere Helping Hands for Nepal has been supporting the school and a young student in Katmandu since 2015.

This year our Helping Hands for Nepal group, 15 like-minded students and adults, will travel to Nepal in August. Once there we will join a local company, Real Himalaya, to provide services to rural schools in the Himalayan foothills. Our involvement in the project will include teaching English, music and art, painting and renovating classrooms, and running a health camp for students and women, including advice on women’s health, and hygiene kit distribution. Menstrual hygiene matters – to the women and girls, and the whole community. When girls are empowered with the right support they will find it easier to access their education regularly, which is important to their futures and employment opportunities.

Nepal is a developing country, supporting their schools and schools to have the right facilities and education materials will ensure they can contribute to better education, gender equality, and health of their students.

We are raising funds to support our project: the funds will be used to employ local people to help us with travel and construction, to purchase essential stationery and hygiene kits for the students and supplies for the improvement of the school. We will purchase books to help the children learn English, paint for the classrooms, warm clothing and much, much more!
