I am fundraising to help my sister Damaris with the medical bills for her throat cancer treatment and other related expenses.

I know that many of you know her family and have asked if there is any way to help in the situation. This page has been set up for this purpose. If you wish to help, it is much appreciated, but of course there is no obligation. Any amount, no matter how small, will be a great help. It is greatly appreciated.

This is her situation.

Damaris has throat cancer, and she is currently receiving chemotherapy and a monoclonal antibody treatment which targets cancer cells. This is the second cancer that my sister has fought. She was diagnosed with a stage IV nasopharyngeal carcinoma (an advanced cancerous tumour of the cavity behind the nose), when she was 20 years old. She received high doses of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Though she overcame that cancer, it left her with debilitating health issues.

As a result of the high levels of radiotherapy that Damaris received 25 years ago with the first cancer, administering radiotherapy again for this new cancer is not an option. This is the reason she has had to look for alternatives to radiotherapy to compliment her chemotherapy treatment.

The medical bills are expensive (listed below) and I really want to help provide the amount of care that is needed for her. In Spain chemotherapy is covered, however we need to provide her with alternative treatment to support her body as it goes through such a harsh treatment.

Damaris’ immediate family is made up of her, her husband Solomon and her two sons, Guillem and Benji who are aged 16 & 13. The youngest of the sons, Benji, has autism and as a result has a disability of 65% (in the Spanish health system) Which means he depends totally on his parents. He has a very strong connection to his mum. My sister's husband is an English teacher and he has had to reduce his working hours to arrange appointments, take my sister to the hospital/doctors, handle Damaris’ daily needs and care and of course support their sons, especially the youngest who depends heavily on his parents support in his daily routine.

The money will be used for her ongoing alternative treatment and to support her family when her family income is reduced as it is at the moment.

Some of the current medical costs are as follows:

- Hyperthermia Treatment £3200 per month. 'modulated electro-hyperthermia,' as it's otherwise known as uses a method of selectively targeting cancer cells on a cellular level by passing both focused and controlled heat, and an electric field, through cancer tissue. It provides pain free cancer treatment. In short, it destroys the membrane of the cancer cells specifically rather than all cells.

Research into Hyperthermia treatment has shown that this treatment also influences the immune system to recognise cancer cells and prevents cancer cells from producing new blood vessels. This treatment complements and augments the effect of chemotherapy.

- Intravenous Vitamin C infusions to boost her immune system £640 per month

- Appointments with the private doctor £350 per month

- Dietary Supplements £180 per month

- Help with financially supporting the family.

I will try to update you regularly so that you know what's going on and what treatment she is having, how she is doing, how her husband and sons are and as much extra information as possible.

Estoy recolectando 50.000€ para ayudar a mi hermana Dámaris Romero en su lucha contra el cáncer.

Su historia.

Estoy recolectando fondos para ayudar a mi hermana Dámaris a financiar los costes de los tratamientos médicos del cáncer de garganta.

Sé que muchos de vosotros conocéis a sus familia y habéis preguntado si hay alguna manera en la que podáis ayudar en esta situación. Esta página se ha diseñado con este propósito. Si deseas ayudar, lo apreciaremos muchísimo pero, por supuesto, no es una obligación. Cualquier cantidad, por pequeña que sea será de gran ayuda. CUALQUIER cantidad nos ayudará muchísimo.

Dámaris tiene cáncer de garganta y actualmente esta recibiendo quimioterapia y un tratamiento de anticuerpos monoclonales que ataca a las células cancerígenas.

Este es el segundo cáncer contra el que pelea. Le diagnosticaron un carcinoma “nasofaríngeo” (un avanzado tumor cancerígeno en la cavidad detrás de la nariz) de nivel IV, cuando tenía 20 años. Recibió dosis altas de radioterapia y quimioterapia. Aunque Dámaris venció al cáncer, le dejó secuelas y muchos problemas de salud.

Como resultado de los altos niveles de radioterapia que Dámaris recibió hace 25 años con su primer cáncer, administrar radioterapia otra vez para atacar este nuevo cáncer no es una opción. Así que, ella ha tenido que buscar tratamientos alternativos a la radioterapia para complementar su tratamiento de quimioterapia.

Las facturas médicas son caras (detalles mas abajo) y solo quiero darle todo el cuidado que sea necesario. En España el tratamiento de quimioterapia está cubierto, pero Dámaris necesita tratamientos alternativos para fortalecer su cuerpo mientras se somete a un tratamiento tan agresivo como la quimioterapia.

La familia inmediata de Dámaris está compuesta de su esposo Solomon y sus dos hijos, Guillem de 16 años y Benji de 13. El más pequeño de sus hijos, Benji, tiene autismo con una discapacidad del 65% en el sistema español de salud, lo que significa que depende totalmente de sus padres. Él tiene una conexión muy fuerte con su madre. El esposo de mi hermana es profesor de inglés y ha visto reducidas sus horas de trabajo para llevar a mi hermana a las citas médicas y cuidar tanto de las necesidades diarias de mi hermana como de las de sus hijos, especialmente el mas joven que depende totalmente de sus padres en su rutina diaria. Estas horas en las que no puede ir a trabajar no se las pagan por lo que sus ingresos se han reducido muchísimo.

El dinero que recojamos se usará para los tratamientos alternativos y para respaldar a su familia cuando los ingresos de la familia se reduzcan como está sucediendo ahora.

Algunos de los gastos actuales son los siguientes:

- Tratamiento de oncotermia, 3200€ al mes. También se conoce como hipertermia oncológica. La oncotermia aplica calor inhomogéneo a través de ondas electromagnéticas que calientan solo las células tumorales, lo que permite un tratamiento microscópico, localizado y selectivo, que destruye las células malignas sin efectos secundarios. En resumen, la oncotermia destruye la membrana de las células cancerígenas específicamente en lugar de todas las células. Estudios han demostrado que el tratamiento de oncotermia ayuda al sistema inmunológico a reconocer las células cancerígenas e impide que las células cancerígenas produzcan nuevos vasos sanguíneos.

- Infusiones de Vitamina C intravenosa para estimular el sistema inmunológico, 640€ al mes.

- Citas con doctores privados, 350€ al mes.

- Suplementos alimenticios, 180€ al mes.

- Ayuda para mantener a la familia.
