Story
Hi, my name is Alex and this is my story. When I was born I couldn’t breath. It took the nurses 7 minutes to revive me and now I have Cerebral Palsy (brain damage).
I’ve managed to learn to walk in my own special way but I fall over lots and usually hurt myself.
The spasticity in my legs and feet make my muscles & bones hurt all the time. I have to wear AFO splints which I hate because my feet are covered in blisters. These often get so sore that they bleed but I have to wear them to be able to go to nursery or even play in my garden. I can’t walk or stand without them. The more I grow the worse everything gets. In a years time I’m likely to be in a wheelchair everyday for the rest of my life.
I get very upset when I can’t keep up with my friends and my big brother & sister. I just want to be like other children and do things they do.
My Mummy and Daddy didn’t think there was anything that could be done to change my life but the amazing brain doctors at GOSH want me to have a rare and special operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) This will guarantee to stop the pain and I will have a 95% chance that I will be able to walk. That means no wheelchair, no splints, no tears and NO PAIN!
The operation has recently become available on NHS which we 're so excited about, however my long term physiotherapy and any speacial equipment i will need for my recovery is not. It costs such a lot of money (£20,000) which my Mummy and Daddy need to fundraise for me.
Please can you spare just £1 (or more) and share my story with your friends and family to help my wish come true!
Thank you
Alex

A good friend of mine told me your story. My son wasn't breathing when he was born but he was ok in the end. I couldn't look my kids in the eye if I didn't help somehow. Good luck with everything.
