Story

Please help Mick to stand again

Mick Lloyd was previously physically fit until he was diagnosed with MS 17 years ago. He has not walked for 7 years, so is totally wheelchair dependent. He needs to raise £12,185 to buy a standing wheelchair, which would have massive health and social benefits for him.

He would be able to stand with others when having conversation; singing in church and even to pose for photos. He could also reach items at a higher level, giving him back some independence.

Standing is something that most of us take for granted, but for Mick it would ease the swelling in his feet and ankles, keep his legs muscles strong, help to prevent cramps and spasms in his legs; relieve the pressure from his bottom so helping to prevent sores and giving him relief when they occur; help him with digestion, breathing and with circulation. The wheelchair also has a leg raiser which would exercise his legs and help to keep his legs and feet straight, again to help prevent cramps and spasms. It also means that he can lie himself down to have a nap in the chair whenever he feels the need.

NB total needed is £12,185 and we have raised most offline, leaving a balance to raise of £300. The total and target will be revised on here as we raise more offline.
