Story

Sandra Davis, aged 52, from Bromsgrove, a loving wife to her Husband, George and a fantastic mother to her two grown up children, Laura and George. Sandra has always kept herself fit and healthy, like all of us she took her good health and fitness for granted. Then one day in November 2017 she received some shocking news that turned her life upside down, Sandra attended a routine mammogram appointment, she had no lumps or signs of anything to be concerned about so attended feeling confidant, two weeks later she was diagnosed with stage 3 aggressive Breast Cancer. Her life changed direction and her old life was gone within an instant everything changed overnight. To follow was endless hospital trips to see consultants and specialist, her treatment plan was agreed and the Chemotherapy began. It’s been a tough journey and she’s only half way through, she has lost her hair, eyelashes and eyebrows and has lost 3.5 stone in weight. Over the course of the past few months she has become considerably weaker, the chemotherapy and its side effects of nausea, extreme fatigue, memory loss and menopause is taking its toll, she is forced to rest for most the day and only has a couple of hours in the morning where she feels well, she is unable to work and finds even walking the dog too difficult to manage, for a woman that was always been so active this is something that is very hard for her to come to terms with. The next stage of Sandra’s treatment is surgery; therefore, she is now preparing herself, physically as well as mentally for a mastectomy and all the side effects that may occur with this type of treatment. Throughout this whole process she has still kept a smile on her face, her own worries come second to her families and friends feelings, she constantly hides her own illness and poor health to spare others their concern, she’s a tough cookie, tougher than I could ever image myself being in this situation, I’ve spoken to her daily and not once has she moaned. Whilst its been a tough road, she has responded well to the treatment and is expected to make a good recovery, Sandra now wants to help other people in her situation and so she has decided she wants to raise money for Breast Cancer research and Awareness, to do that she has decided to Cycle Lands’ End to John O’Groats in August 2019. She has a long way to go before she can even get on a bike but her determination will get her there, she doesn’t have a Bike or any of the equipment required to do this, nor the fee to attend the ride, she really hasn’t been able to work since her treatment started so to help her get back to her former self and to achieve her goal we would like to raise £3000 to help.
