Story
Hi! My name's Emily, I'm a second year medical student at University College London, and I'm the head fundraiser for a charity called Spectrum!
Spectrum is a volunteer-led charity by medical students at University College London. We provide a befriending service to children with disabilities in the Camden area. Our aims are to provide opportunities for adventure for the children and to provide respite to both them and their families no less than once a fortnight. It also allows our volunteers to spend time with children with special needs, giving them greater depth of understanding on physical and mental illness, as well as the impact they have on their families.
We are planning a remote 10K sponsored walk, where each volunteer walks 10K in their local area between the 17th-23rdth August, to raise money to keep providing this excellent service on a regular basis.
Sponsoring us will mean we can continue our regular outings with the children we care for, and plan group activities for all volunteers and children to spend time with each other. It will also go towards funding our residential, which takes place at an outdoors education centre and offers opportunities for both children and volunteers to experience new activities, bond and truly enjoy themselves.
Throughout my time volunteering with this charity I've seen how invaluable this service is, and the positive impact it has on both the children and their families. Any donation is greatly appreciated and for more information on this charity, please visit our website and social media pages linked below!
