Story
Help an Ukrainian family with two children, whose house was bombed in February 2022, when Russian soldiers attacked their homeland and killed, raped, and tortured humans and animals.
This is a story of my friend, Tatiana.
“We are a family from the village of Novoselovka, Chernihiv region. The village that was the first to be attacked by Russian troops, that was bombed and demolished to the ground in the first few days of full scale Russian invasion.
We have been building our house for 13 years, living in rented housing and managed to spend only 2 (two!!!) nights there before the house was bombed. My children and I were hiding in a barn in a cellar, thank God the bomb didn't hit the barn and we miraculously survived, but in an instant we were homeless…
Around us people were dying, cows were burning, our neighbour’s dog was burning and crying, but we could not save her as bombs were falling everywhere…
Our village is located at the entrance to the city of Chernihiv, it was a direct road from Russia to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.
Chernihiv fought to the last, it was surrounded by Russian troops. My children and other villagers and I lived in a little wooden hut for a month in the cold during February and March 2022, without light, heat and water. We went to the river to get water, but Russian soldiers were shooting at us constantly the moment we tried to approach the river. We dug the remaining potatoes from frozen ground. All village kids really wanted was a smidgen of bread… They had not tasted it for a long time.
But when the bread came to the village and we were late to be in the queue, that saved us as the Russians killed all the people in the queue…
We managed to escape Chernihiv's encirclement for Kiev, crossing the field under the shelling of the Russian military. We were speeding so much as the shelling was non-stop. Our car was destroyed but we were safe…
It was very scary, but it was impossible to stay in Chernihiv, there was no food, no clean water or heat and most of all - we were constantly scared to be killed.
I'II never forget when my daughter ate a bun and cried because she could eat it, and those who stayed and couldn't leave couldn't eat such treats.
I am a civil servant, a dog handler, but at the moment I am in England, London and I work as a cleaner and will start studying English as soon as i can to work and earn enough money to rebuild our home. My son and daughter are in Ukraine, they are still studying. I send all my earnings to pay for their food, clothes and studies.”
You do not need to be Ukrainian to support Ukraine. You just need to be human.
Thank you for any help to Tatiana 💙💛
