Story

Hi all,

I’m cycling 100k as part of the London Nightrider which is a night ride that starts at midnight and will take me quite a few hours to complete, hopefully finishing at some point the next day.

I was contemplating what charity I should do it for but then I decided that it would be great to raise money for my school Eco-Team. Firstly, because 100% of the money you donate will go directly to the cause and secondly because you will be able to see a direct impact with how we spend the money. You can keep up to date with all of our future projects through my Twitter page @Ecoteacher01.

I started the school Eco-Team at the beginning of last year to raise awareness of the environmental issues facing our school, our city and the planet. We have two children from each class who are part of the Eco-Team and we meet up regularly to discuss, plan and implement new initiatives.

Things we have done this year:

- Introduced a plastic recycling bin into the school dinner centre.

- Launched a battery recycling campaign to reduce how many batteries end up in landfill.

- We have been out on a number of litter pickups in the local area.

- Given whole school assemblies on the harmful plastic in our oceans.

- Up-cycled glass jars to make candle holders which we sold to raise money for a Nepalese orphanage .

Things we would like to do in the future that would be greatly helped by your donations:

- Buy green hi-vis vests to wear when we are on our litter pickups in the local area.

- Launch a campaign to ask local restaurants and pubs to stop using plastic straws.

- Go on a school trip to the House of Commons to meet with members of parliament to voice our concerns about environmental issues.

- Give a whole school assembly on the importance of reducing food waste.

- Plus many more ideas that will be more likely to come to fruition if we had a little funding behind us.

Many of you may already be aware of the funding cuts that schools are facing. This is having a huge impact on how much money schools are able to spend on additional things, such as an Eco-Team. The children involved are unbelievably talented and have a real passion for changing the world. A small donation from you will allow them to think big with their ideas and will have a real impact on what they are able to achieve.

Thank you on behalf of the Eco-Team x
