Story
Bradford, Sunday 6th November and 5 degrees freezing cold, my family and I encountered at least three homeless people on the way to meeting friends for a meal, wrapped up in our warm coats, hats, jumpers and shoes. Something we take for granted everyday.
My little boy, aged 7, asked me why they were there and what has happened to them. Where do they sleep Mummy?
In that moment, the importance of teaching my children values, morals and charity became so apparent. After all, these people are somebody's children, somebody's family.
On our way back to the car, we got together all of the spare change we had in our purses, bags and wallets to give to the homeless people we had seen earlier. The gratitude shown by the gentleman we found, for our £1.48 of 'shrapnel' brought a lump to my throat, but gave the most important lesson to my son. The twenty second exchange of thank-yous from this freezing cold man was something that would be in my sons mind forever.
He asked me what more could we do for these people, how can we help them and make them happy. He asked if we could give them coats, warm drinks and food. We decided then to go the extra mile and hopefully raise money to be able to get more of the things we had in our own home to give them , to reach out and help more people than just a couple.
So, for my 7 year old son, who only sees a person in need, we have set up a donations page to help him achieve his goal of helping the homeless in Bradford this Christmas. Giving back is so important, so we would be very grateful for any donations received for the homeless of Bradford.
Thank you!!
