    Story

Without a doubt, this is the most difficult text I have ever had to write so far in my life.

My name is Juan José Páez Dortolina, and my dad, Juan Jose Paez Lofrano, 77, is suffering from Thymus Cancer (the thymus is an organ located below the sternum, part of the lymphatic system, and is responsible for producing white blood cells called lymphocytes that help fight infection). He is currently living in Caracas, Venezuela with my mother. Me, on the other hand, I´m living in Mexico City and my sister in Florida, USA.

This disease is limiting his mobility and quality of life: the tumor is exerting pressure on the superior vena cava, affecting the free circulation of the blood to the upper areas of the body, producing dangerous thrombosis, seriously hindering his respiration, and producing a syndrome of swelling throughout his body.

We ask for all the monetary help that you can generously give to my dad, so that we can continue with his treatment, which consists in 20 sessions of radiotherapy and 6 of chemotherapy sessions in a first fase, and a surgery to remove what it may remains of the tumor. Also, with all the donations, we will be able to pay all the medical expenses related with his recovery: medicines, medical appliances, etc. With this, we will allow him to be with us for many more years.

The insurance that my father has as a retiree was already used in his first hospitalization, so we are in need of resorting to this platform for help. He has already had several medical tests such as: tomography, antibiotic treatments, diuretic treatments, among others to help him to stabilize. As we know, the costs in Venezuela rise daily, the public hospital system is deplorable, so everything must be done in private clinics, access to medicines is very uncertain and due to the struggle we have in our country to achieve freedom , the roads of communication are affected daily.

Attached, you will find the medical report of my father, where the doctor says the recommendations and the next steps to follow on his recovery process.
