Story

Three lads taking on Helvellyen. The plan is to get up and down ten times in three days to raise money for two charities very close to our hearts and hopefully raising awareness around miscarriage / recurrent miscarriage and the stigma that still exists around it. We are raising money for Chasing Rainbows- 1188916 and Tommy’s- 1060508 .

Danny Thompson;

My wife, Becci, and myself have suffered the heartbreak of recurrent miscarriage over the past three years. Having a miscarriage is a painful, life-changing trauma that nobody should ever have to go through and experiencing this repeatedly and losing five babies, which we had planned a future with, has taken its toll from a physical, medical, psychological and social perspective. It has unquestionably been some of the darkest times of our lives. I’ve chosen to take on this challenge to try to give a little back to the charity ‘Chasing Rainbows’ - a relatively new and local charity that specialise in recurrent miscarriage and early pregnancy loss support. This charity that has helped my family beyond measure with its support, information and understanding. It has provided Becci with a safe space to share our grief, emotions and fears and I can honestly say without Chasing Rainbows and the love of close friends and family, I am not exactly sure where we would be right now. I also want to help end the stigma around early pregnancy loss and the way it is discussed in public. The very fact that I felt a little unnerved writing this shows the level of work that still needs to be done to help address the stigma and misconceptions around the issue. Hopefully this can help give others a little strength who are experiencing similar dark and difficult times. We hope one day we can tell our ray of sunshine Zac that he can be a big brother.

My wife, Lotty, and I experienced a missed miscarriage during our first pregnancy, an experience that caused a lot pain and heartache for us both. Arriving at the hospital excited and giddy for our 12-week scan to find that there was no heartbeat was the start of an incredibly difficult time for us both. Unfortunately, it is in these moments when you realise just how many people have gone through and continue to go through similar painful experiences, it was only by opening up about it that we were able to move forward. Thank you to all those people who gave us strength through this period and I hope I can make some of you proud by completing this challenge for these amazing charities. With the help and support from our friends and family, we are now fortunate and proud to have two wonderful little girls. It is important to me to raise awareness and financial support for these two wonderful charities in order to ensure progress is made in raising awareness and medical research.
