Karen Lubbock has decided (is mad enough) to take the Bournemouth Pier to Pier swim (1.4 miles / 2.3KM) on 5 July. Karen is raising money for the cause our running club is supporting this year.

This year, Orpington Road Runners is proud to support a local young lad called Harry Magee.

On New Years’ Eve 2023, Harry had a fall at home resulting in a complete spinal fracture and life changing injuries. Harry's rehabilitation journey so far has been challenging, both physically and emotionally, but his resilience and determination are truly inspiring. And at 24, he still has his whole life ahead of him. As a quadriplegic, Harry now requires 24-hour care, and he needs lots of support to deal with all the challenges he now faces.

Harry's family has very close ties with the club. Harry's aunt, as a club member runs the cake stall at the 10K, alongside Harry's mum.

There is vital equipment that he needs to get his independence back. The most important thing that Harry needs right now is a modified vehicle. He will need one with a lift and enough space for him to travel in his wheelchair. Being able to travel independently means that his opportunity to share the events his friends and family are having increases significantly. The simple idea of being able to come home and family celebrations become so much more of a reality. The Whole Magee family are very grateful for the club's kindness.
