    Story

Henry had been recieving speech therapy for the past three and half years (since he was 2 years old) from the NHS. He has had block sessions working out about 12 a year. When he was 3 1/2 he got a space in a specialised nursery giving him 2 therapy sessions a week. He left there to start School in September and we were told he would go back to having 12 sessions a year. The therapist agreed that this wasnt enough for Henry but were unable to provide any more. We managed to get Henry an EHCP (Educational Health Care Plan) and finally the NHS agreed to give him weekly sessions.

With the donations recieved via crowdfunding we have managed to get Henry the help he needs via a private therapist. This comes at a great cost, nearly £4000 per year.

After 3 1/2 years of therapy Henry has finally got a diagnosis. He has Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia also known as Apraxia. This is a motor disorder which means that the problem is located in his brain and it's signals . The brain has problems planning to move body parts (lips, jaw, tongue) needed for speech. He knows what he wants to say but his brain has difficulty coordinating the muscle movements.

This will not simply disappear as he grows older. There is no cure but with intensive therapy this motor speech disorder can improve significantly. He requires direct therapy 3-5 times per week.

To ensure Henry gets the help he needs it is costing us £3.650a year, a figure we cannot afford. We are hoping to raise half of this which will pay for 6 months therapy. He is likely to need this specialised therapy for the next three years (£10.950, doesn't bear thinking about).

Henry is the most lovable character who is trying to find his voice. He tries so hard and gives everything his all when it comes to trying to say words. It is such a big effort but he never gives up.

Help us give Henry a chance to be able to reach his goals in being able to communicate with others.
