DISCLAIMER (as at 21:00 on the 18th Feb):
Thank you very much to all those who have donated - we have exceeded our goal! This could not have been achieved without your help and support. I am setting a cut off of the 18th March for donations (A CAP CANNOT BE SET and this is the soonest possible date as per JustGiving’s rules). I will withdraw the funds on the 27th Feb (the earliest opportunity as per JustGiving’s rules) and as soon as I can I will meet up with the farmer and hand the money over to him - likely the first week of March. This will all be documented and evidenced, for everyone’s peace of mind. Any money raised between 27th Feb - 18th March will be withdrawn on the 18th and also given to the farmer in full - he has already expressed his wish to distribute it among other farmers facing similar problems with fly tipping. Due to JustGiving’s terms of service, a 2.9% fee will be deducted from the total amount raised upon withdrawing the funds. Please rest assured that 100% of all funds raised (minus the 2.9% fee) will go to the farmer affected. Thank you so much again, your generosity has been truly inspiring.
Last summer, a farmer in Hertfordshire had 200 tonnes of rubbish and hazardous waste dumped on his field by fly tippers (https://www.thetimes.com/article/963953a3-a08f-483f-891b-2414941c9127?shareToken=a974b1086c5a17d86b0177638d6555fe).
The farmer, in his eighties, has been left to foot the £40,000 clean-up bill or face prosecution, after the Environment Agency deemed the 200 tonne clean-up job insufficiently large for them to get involved.
This farmer (who wishes to remain anonymous for security reasons) now faces financial ruin through no fault of his own, rather through the illegal actions of criminals who have not been brought to justice.
I am raising £45,000 to help this farmer clear his land, retain his livelihood, and better secure his land from anything like this happening again.
The plight of farmers has been well-documented recently, please help me assist someone who forms the backbone of our country through his work.
