    Story

Hi, I am Hetty - thank you for visiting my crowdfunding page.

I was born with an extremely rare disease called Familial Hypocalciuric Hypercalcaemia. It is a hereditary disease and to date there are only a handful of people around the globe that are known to have a similar condition.

I have had frequent hospital admissions over my 27 years starting at Great Ormond Street Hospital - who have carried out an enormous amount of research into my condition and i am eternally grateful. I have elevated calcium levels in my blood which led to me being very sick as a child and resulted in me struggling to grow at a normal rate and leading to my severe learning difficulties. I have had a heart operation and i get regular check ups on my kidneys to ensure they have not calcified. I am also Osteopenic and will always have regular sans to check my bone density. There is no cure for my condition but I continue to be monitored and will do so throughout my lifetime. I owe huge thanks to all the wonderful doctors and nurses that have looked after me over the years.

My disability may have affected my overall wellbeing but my love of animals and sports has always meant that I have been active.

I started running when i was 14, at the time my heart was affected by the change in breathing and my stamina was very low - I would get worn out within a matter of minutes. However, with the support of my family who have always championed me, and some great mentors in the form of coaches, I have now been selected to compete for Great Britain at the 2019 Abu Dhabi Special Olympics. This is a dream come true for me and I can't wait to start training with the team.

I am with a club called orwell panthers they are a club for people with diffrent types of dissablity. I have been with orwell panthers since i was 14 years old. They are amazing club. Thanks to orwell panthers there training has got me to were i am today, i could not of done it without them. If you or you know someone with a disablity i would strongly recomend you join the club.

Please help me raise £3000 to cover the overall costs of my plane ticket, the GB sportswear, hotel, nutrition etc. Anything that you can sponsor would be hugely helpful to me - in return I promise to keep you posted on my training journey that will lead up to the Special Olympics,

Winter training is well underway. Always putting yourself through your comfort zone. Real hard training is putting your body through things that it’s not normal possible able to do but to get where you need to be you have to push your body like that. You be sweating you be crying you be laughing you be saying I can’t do this but you just have to do it. Never give up and work hard and your dream will come true. This is how a real gb 🇬🇧 athlete trains.

Today at the gym doing back strength training this is what real GB athletes do in the gym it’s not fun you have to put your sweat and tears into it. You have to push your body through things that not normal people would be able to do. You always have to get out of your comfort zone to get where you want to be that’s what it’s like to be a GB athlete it’s pushing yourself more than ever and more
