    Story

    Charity begins at home ...

'Heart for the Homeless' is a monthly lunch club run by volunteers from CTiG Churches Together in Gosport.

Through providing shelter, a hot meal, friendship and hygiene and clothing items, we aim to provide a safe place and a regular opportunity for the homeless to meet and find rest and shelter. We aim to work in harmony with other helpful agencies - and are pleased to have recently built positive links with the local Trash Cafe - saving money, creating good food and cutting down on waste. We aim to be a link in a chain between the homeless, the church and other sources of practical help.

We have just held a Musical Talent Afternoon with the help of Radio Haslar, to raise some funds. The event itself raised over £550 ... a massive 'thank you' to all who came and helped and contributed - and to the audience for making it a sucess. Here are a few pictures ....

But it doesn't end there ...

Sometimes it is as important to be giving, as it is to be receiving. Our fundraising effort is reaching out beyond ourselves to support Mark Wade who takes teams of volunteers to help rebuild the lives of disadvantaged people from his church base in Romania and into other parts of Europe and the Ukraine. Mark is known to one of our team members and gets involved in different aid projects, from taking teams volunteering at refugee camps, to putting in plumbing in orphanages, to helping church communities find a warm, dry building from which to operate. Helping others is often an important aspect of recovery ... so this is a joint effort to help rebuild people's lives both here in Gosport and abroad ... this page can continue to accept donations for another couple of weeks for anyone who would like to contribute after the event to support the homeless and disadvantaged near and far. Below are a few pictures of Mark's projects.

Thanks to all who came along this afternoon ... it truly was a joint effort by many, and some great networking went on between different agencies, individuals and churches ... from the building, to the cakes, to the musicians, compere and PA technician, to even the tea and coffee, everything was a gift! A massive 'Thank you!' I will add pictures when I have them. Any leftover cakes went straight back to the homeless ... nothing wasted ... thanks to all who have donated.

This week has been very touching ... many lovely gifts have been donated by the community towards our Fund Raising effort on Sunday afternoon ... including a free MOT, some quality tools, vouchers for hair and beauty and fitness sessions, and many other thoughtful donations. Some shop keepers shared their own experiences of homelessness ... and it was inspiring to see that for them, there was a light at the end of the tunnel, and their homeless experience was a pause before a new beginning. Here is an opportunity to help support new beginnings!
