    Story

We are three best friends who's children & friends went to the concert in Manchester on May 22nd 2017 and are sickened, angered & saddened by the events that should have been a memorable and happy night out.

Our children were very lucky but many weren't & our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.

With Zero experience of running we have pledged to complete the Manchester half marathon on October 15th to raise funds to help a local Dad and his daughter who are amongst those severely injured.

Martin and his daughter unfortunately got caught up in the devastating incident and are amongst those severely injured.

The photograph above was Martin's last Facebook post before the concert commenting "quick pit stop before Miss Grande at the arena".

Both are very poorly, his daughter even more so.Neither are going to make a speedy recovery and both sustained life changing injuries of the worst kind.

It is clear both will need long term financial support.

They were 10m away from the bomb as it detonated. In all Martin suffered 22 shrapnel wounds, the majority of the metal fragments(nails, nuts and bolts) entering his buttock and back, 4 hitting his R foot breaking his ankle and tibia.

One piece went straight through his bicep leaving a golf ball size hole from which he lost a lot of blood, another ended up in his stomach - but this was not through his back. A metal nut entered his his neck severing his jugular vein completely and partially rupturing his Carotid artery. It then entered his throat before being swallowed. This meant he lost his entire blood volume at the scene and had to have over 16 pints transfused before he reached the intensive care unit.

He needed a 5hr Operation to remove shrapnel leaving a massive scar.

He has a piece of metal embedded in his spinal cord and is now paralysed from the belly button down & will be in a wheelchair from this day forward

We hope to make a difference 1 step at a time

We are now less than 24 hours to the run. Our kits are ready but we're all feeling really nervous! Training has been zero for me due to my knee injury and the other girls are feeling the nerves too. As our running tops say "Martin & Eve every step is for you" and we know we are doing this for the right reasons and the two most deserving people!! No matter what, it will be a huge achievement for us all. Please help us to push our total to the £1,000 target we set. This isn't for us, its for two local heroes!!!! Xxx

So,we are now several weeks in and I should be training. But I'm still suffering with a knee problem I picked up in my first training run. On Mon I had acupuncture again and the physio is advising my GP refer me to an orthopaedic consultant as she suspects cartilage damage 😰 This just means I'll have to walk rather than run but it won't beat me!! Failure is not an option so I'll soldier on!! Petra & Wendy are both still training hard!!! After being told not to train it's just not an option...so I'm off to find my trainers... please donate xx
