    Story

Shepherd’s Cottage is a hidden treasure in Highgate. Most likely built in the early 18th Century, it is located in the Village Backlands and recently achieved a Grade II listing from Historic England. The Cottage and its historic setting are threatened by a proposed development which will block heritage views and emergency access. The Highgate Society has come together with the local community to challenge these plans and to preserve the cottage in its setting for future generations. We are not against some development, but it needs to be good development.

Donations will be used to fund a planning barrister. As the case progresses, we may need to increase our fund raising target. Any excess of donations over costs will be retained for general purposes.

Note that the video refers to Shepherd’s Cottage as 17th century. However, our most recent research suggests it is more likely to be early 18th century - that’s still very old.

Thank you so much to everyone you has contributed to our fund raising. We have had some other direct donations and so are close to fully covering the costs for legal fees incurred so far. The fight is not over yet and we will post further updates when there is more to report.
