I've raised £2000 to help to refurbish our school library to create an inspirational, calm and engaging place to read and learn.

High Oakham Primary School has embarked on a refurbishment journey - to create an inspirational, calm and engaging school library. This is being completed in memory of Di Stendall who was our Chair of Governors and sadly passed away on 30th July 2020 following a fierce battle with cancer.
Di was so very passionate about children learning and in particular reading. She loved to hear children read at High Oakham and was an advocate for reading for pleasure - that true love of reading!
We have already worked really hard on our library space - it was two classrooms which we have opened up to create an airy, bright spacious centre. We have replaced the carpets and painted throughout. School have committed £5k to this which has nearly been spent and we are looking for you to support us to secure a provision which we hope will be modern and inspiring. We are looking at mini research areas which can mix new technologies with traditional reading to extend our learning and play a great part in preparing our children for their lives ahead in Modern Britain.
Learning new words is at the centre of our curriculum as we endeavour for our children to have the ability to express themselves eloquently in all of their literacy endeavours, having the confidence to confront future challenges with cultured minds, a thirst for knowledge and lifelong passion for reading.
Our English curriculum is developing and evolving so that during their time at our school, we want children to be inspired to have a love of reading which will enable them not only to enjoy reading for pleasure but also be used as a tool to succeed in all areas of their lives. Through their reading, they will encounter and be challenged by ideas from experiences which they would not normally be exposed to beyond their own community. We believe reading is a fundamental part of communication in an ever more connected world.
Help us to make this happen not only for our amazing children but for Di and her memory. Please donate below and share with friends and family.
Watch out for fundraising events in school through this year!
