Story

Myself and Jess Carley have just finished hiking and camping the 870 mile Wales Coast Path to raise money for the charity Mermaids, and after one days rest, we have set off to complete the 180 mile Offa's Dyke - this time for Oasis Cardiff. It's going to be an extra 180 miles over 2 weeks, taking us up to a grand total of 1,050 miles over 4 months. 🔆

Oasis provide a warm welsh welcome to refugees and asylum seekers living in Cardiff by running community events where the cultures and traditions of all those that live in the city are celebrated.

They run an enormous range of free activities, from art groups, cooking clubs, English language classes, sports sessions, trips to the mountains, daily advisory sessions, advocacy forums, wellbeing sessions...the list goes on! On top of this, they provide free (healthy and delicious!) lunches every day of the week.

The Oasis centre aims to be a safe space, where people can come to make connections, find friends, help with settling into safe new homes, find support from the trauma of conflict and access practical help with applying for jobs or accomodation.

With over 150 people visiting the centre each day, it's clear that Oasis is a much loved and vital service for those in Cardiff.
In 2020 alone, Oasis provided:
• 45,000 meals directly to peoples' homes
• Wellbeing classes for 169 women
• Employed 7 Refugees to work in the kitchen

Your donations can help to keep this work running:
■ £5 can pay towards a week's worth of healthy meals and refreshments for one family.

■ £10 can pay towards a one to one session with a trained Integration Officer.

■ £20 can pay towards a day of English language classes for up to 20 learners.

Overall, your support will help to build Cardiff into a city of acceptance, connections, and a place where everyone can feel valued.
