Story

So today whilst walking around Southey Woods in Peterborough, we discovered a beautiful bird of prey laying quietly amongst the tree felling works, that had recently occured. He was very alert and didn’t seem too badly injured but he definitely couldnt be left alone being so young. So wrapped up in a coat to keep him warm, we sat on a nearby log and started researching the internet for wildlife rescue centres. After failing to get through to several places we finally got through to Hill Farm Bird of Prey and Wildlife Rescue. They were happy to take him in and a short drive away and we arrived at the rescue. The man took a good look at him and felt all his wings. He said he had taken a bash to one side but should be ok. Tempting him with some food, he then explained that he thought he could be a Red Kite or possibly a Buzzard. The bird had the most amazing beak, large alert eyes and some big claws! The centre estimated that he was around two weeks old. He was popped into a carry box and tucked away somewhere quiet and dark to help him recover from the shock. At the time of holding him, he was very warm and had a nice regular heart beat so hopefully this means we found him in good time. The rescue centre had a good array of animals being looked after, everything from parakeets to snakes to a stoat that was being released in a few days!

We are very grateful that we were able to find somewhere that was avaliable to take the bird at short notice and was so close. So to thabk the centre we would like to start a fundraiser to help with the cost of looking after this beautiful bird as well as the many other animals being cared for. We hope you will join us and give whatever you can to help this beautiful baby and help the rescue centre pay for his upkeep! We will keep you updated about how the little one is doing and when he will be strong enough to be released again. 🦅

Many thanks, Karl and Becky.
